Man at Chez Georges Laurie Fox PESSEMIER Acrylic on wood 5.5 x 12 inches
We went to Chez Georges with a friend one evening. I was struck with how everyone wanted to be there -- not like work or the grocery store, or even out to dinner. This guy was there the next day when we went back for coffee and another glimpse.

I really enjoy painting people -- very quick, very "hidden", so there's no posing

It was so cold the Sunday I painted this, over by St. Sulpice (the "well" fountain), my hat blew into the water. I wanted to believe it was spring (there are some green leaves in foreground).

I've been painting these matchboxes with different "Paris" themes. I am especially aware of smoking accessories these days, since the smoking ban in public buildings in France has taken effect. In fact, matches are still useful. There's smoking still allowed in bars and restaurants. Contrary to popular sentiment, I hate the idea of a "ban" because it takes away freedoms. Teaching respect for others would be my approach.
